Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester has recently started its £10.5million refurbishment and extension project which will see the facility gain an 8-lane, 1/2 Olympic size swimming pool, plus an 18m X 10m learner pool with moveable floor.
Before the works began EMS were requested to carry out an asbestos refurbishment survey. The survey was commissioned to address the potential risk of asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) before the planned refurbishment works took place.
When an applicable property carries out refurbishment works, an intrusive asbestos survey is required as part of CAR (Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012) so that the location of all asbestos containing materials are documented.
As the works taking place at Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester were intrusive to the structure of the building, one of our more extensive asbestos surveys was required to ensure workers and public safety.
Environmental Management Solutions are UKAS accredited for all levels of asbestos surveys and work throughout Worcester and the whole of the UK. As part of an asbestos refurbishment survey, surveyors arrive on site with a method statement and carry out an extensive risk assessment before the survey begins. Intrusive methods are then required to inspect areas that are going to be affected by the construction. Following the guidance of HSG 264 our qualified surveyors extract samples of any potential Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM). All potential asbestos samples are then tested in a UKAS accredited laboratory with all ACM’s being confirmed through a certificate. EMS services assist with both asbestos surveying and removal.
