EMS are proud to be a part of fantastic fundraising initiative the Tower to Tower Challenge. EMS have pledged to support the unique challenge over 350 miles and spanning over 4 days. The challenge will begin at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and culminate in the finish at London’s iconic Tower Bridge. The challenge will take the team along the river Seine, traversing the busiest shipping channel in the world and then continuing to trek to London and the finish line.
The Tower to Tower Challenge is being taken on by twelve ordinary people, with a common goal to raise valuable funds for the Donna Louise Hospice. The Donna Louise is a charity based in Stoke-on-Trent providing respite care for parents and families of children and young adults with life shortening conditions.
The challenge is centred around raising awareness of the effect of lack of sleep and sleep deprivation on families of children who require round the clock care. The team wanted to raise awareness of how difficult it is to function physically, emotionally and psychologically on limited sleep. The team will be dealing with sea sickness, rough seas, blisters and aching muscles on top of sleep deprivation.
The first leg of the journey sees the team take to their bikes to cycle from the Eiffel Tower to the port of Le Havre, following the famous River Seine as it meanders its way to the sea. The team will complete the estimated 18-hour ride reaching the port of le Havre in the middle of the night. After a short rest stop, the team will embark on what is set to be the longest and most challenging section of the journey. After little or no sleep the team will take to the seas in a wooden rowing boat, braving strong tides, sea sickness and unpredictable weather amongst other hazards to row the 100 miles across the channel to Brighton. The final leg of the journey starts at Brighton Marina and will take the team on a 60 mile, 24-hour trek to London and the finish line.
EMS would like to wish all of the team the best of luck whilst undertaking the event. Our banner and company information will be on display at the Brighton Rest Stop on one of the final legs of the challenge.
